Front elevation of elevated residential house with white picket fence and pedestrian walking dog on street

Queenslander raised and extended to deliver a double-height indoor-outdoor family home.

The existing Queenslander was raised and shifted to allow a new ground floor below, following the block's natural fall front to back. A split-level layout tracked the site's contours, maintaining the traditional street proportion while opening to a double-height space at the rear. Earthworks were kept to a minimum.

The plan separates quiet from loud. Bedrooms and utility spaces sit at the front. Living areas run to the rear, opening directly to a north-facing backyard and pool.

Old and new are kept distinct. The Queenslander was restored to its original condition. The extension works in contemporary materials at a larger scale. At the transition, a perforated metal bridge connects the original dwelling to the new addition.
